Many people take the environment for granted. People must need to know about global warming and climate change. They must know about energy conservation, water conservation, recycling, tree planting and the different kinds of pollution and how these things affect mother earth. The environment has drastically changed over the past few decades and the world must not wait for the negative consequences of these changes. As students, you have the opportunity to make a change through environmental fundraising programs. Here are some ideas on what you should design your nature fundraiser for it to become successful.

First, you need to think of a theme for your program. The whole environment is too big to be a theme. Break it down to simpler factors that affect the whole environment’s situation. For example, you can choose a Energy Conservation theme. Create a booth in your school that says “Don’t Waste Energy!” Awareness is the first step. After you make people aware, you have to make them interested. Show them short clips or movies about the bad effects of too much energy usage and then as a fund raiser, sell posters, magnets, pens, t-shirts, mugs, key chains or anything where you can put your fundraiser logo. Have monthly contests of which class will consume the least electricity for the month. Sell light switch decals which students can put on their light switches at home or at school.

Another theme for environmental fundraisers for schools is recycling. Have a t-shirt design making contest about recycling. You make this a fundraiser by requiring a registration fee for your participants. Once a design has been chosen, print them out and sell the t-shirts. You can also sell shopping bags that are reusable for kids to give their parents. This way, parents can remember to use these shopping bags whenever going to the grocery to minimize paper or plastic wastes. Make sure the shopping bags look trendy and are made out of environment friendly material.

Water is also becoming scarce these days. You can sell things that will be seen all year long to remind people at home and at your school to conserve water. One example is a “let us conserve water” wall clock. You can also sell shower hangers with the same theme, or calendars that show different ways on how you can save water every month. Make the people at your school know that every drop counts.

Every environmental fundraising program should start with awareness. When people at your school are aware of the environment’s situation at present, for sure, they will help hand in hand in raising funds for a good cause. Not only did you make money for your school environment organization, you also made mother earth a better place to live in!
